Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called for promoting the healthy, stable and sustainable development of China-Canada relations during his meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the sidelines of the ongoing 62nd Munich Security Conference.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China yielded fruitful results, fully demonstrating that Canada's new government has adopted a new policy toward China.

This serves the common interests of both countries and is a completely correct choice, he noted.

The two leaders have reached consensus on building a new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada, providing strategic guidance for the sound development of bilateral relations, Wang pointed out.

The Chinese foreign minister stressed that China stands ready to work with Canada to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, remove disruptions, resume exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote the healthy, stable and sustainable development of bilateral ties.

Anand said Prime Minister Carney's visit to China was highly successful and has ushered in a new era in Canada-China relations.

She thanked the Chinese side for granting visa-free entry to Canadian citizens and expressed hope that both sides will strengthen dialogue and cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and advance bilateral relations in a positive and steady direction.
