The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) held a seminar on Saturday to discuss the white paper "Hong Kong: Safeguarding China's National Security Under the Framework of One Country, Two Systems."
Speaking at the event, John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR, said he will continue to lead efforts to safeguard national security and promote economic development in the region, fully implementing the "six steadfast commitments" outlined in the white paper, and resolutely protecting national sovereignty, security and development interests to ensure high-level security for the sustainable and high-quality development of "One Country, Two Systems."
Zhou Ji, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, added at the seminar that the white paper holds profound significance in clarifying fundamentals, building consensus and consolidating Hong Kong's transition from chaos to order – and further toward prosperity.
Dong Jingwei, director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, said that the white paper affirms the central government's firm stance on safeguarding national security and defending "One Country, Two Systems," while summarizing Hong Kong's experience in this regard.
