German chancellor: Europe's U.S. dependence is self-inflicted

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered a speech at the 62nd Munich Security Conference, bluntly stating that Europe's excessive reliance on the U.S. is "self-inflicted" and calling for accelerated strategic autonomy. He pointed out that the "Make America Great Again" rhetoric has nothing to do with European interests. Merz emphasized that only through unity and cooperation can global challenges be addressed, and that America acting alone cannot achieve "greatness."
