A 17-year-old boy was killed and two other teenage boys were injured in a stabbing attack in central Osaka, western Japan, late Saturday, local media reported.

Police received an emergency call at around 11:55 p.m. local time reporting that several people had been stabbed on the first floor of a building in Osaka's busy Dotonbori shopping district, Kyodo News reported, citing Osaka police.

A young man suspected of carrying out the attack in the downtown area, known for its many restaurants, fled on foot and remains at large, the report said.

The victim, a 17-year-old from Nara Prefecture, suffered stab wounds to the chest and other parts of his body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to hospital with injuries, police said.

The suspect, believed to be in his twenties, was acquainted with the three victims, and a dispute reportedly broke out shortly before the attack, according to police.
