More than 40,000 fireworks illuminated the night as Xiamen in Fujian Province and nearby Kinmen staged a joint display to celebrate the Spring Festival.

Launched in 1987, the annual event has become a longstanding tradition highlighting close cross-Strait ties. Crowds gathered on both sides of the Strait to watch the 30-minute show, which began at 8 p.m. on the first day of the Year of the Horse.
