The Seoul Central District Court is set to deliver its verdict on Thursday in former impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol's insurrection trial stemming from his December 2024 declaration of martial law, according to a local news agency.
The verdict hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time and will be broadcast live on national television, with Yoon in attendance.
On January 13, a special counsel team demanded the death penalty for Yoon, calling him the ringleader of an insurrection, which under South Korean criminal law carries a possible sentence of death or life imprisonment, with or without prison labor.
