From Yunnan's mountains to the global stage: The story of Jin Ruirui

A single thread links a thousand-year tradition with modern life.

Jin Ruirui is a deputy to the National People's Congress and an inheritor of the Yi embroidery. Born in a Yi ethnic village in southwest China's Yunnan Province, she began learning the craft from her mother at age 11. She later returned home to build her own embroidery company, bringing Yi embroidery from the mountains to international runways, including Milan, New York and Paris.

Her work has also been recognized in a UNESCO global demonstration case on integrating intangible cultural heritage into modern design. Her workshop has empowered more than 2,000 Yi ethnic women with local employment opportunities, with products reaching overseas markets and traditional skills becoming a real source of income and pride.
