China has overtaken North America to become the world's top-grossing film market so far in 2026. According to online ticketing platforms, China's box office revenue reached 7 billion yuan (about $970 million) as of Saturday, slightly surpassing the 938 million U.S. dollars earned in North America. So far this year, China's holiday ticketing revenue has exceeded 4.5 billion yuan, accounting for over half of the country's total annual earnings.
