The record-breaking Chinese Spring Festival travel rush reflects a historic expansion of China's integrated transport network. From shortages of train tickets and mass motorcycle journeys to high-speed rail and extensive road networks nowadays, infrastructure growth has transformed both travel capacity and experience.

This graphic outlines changes over the past 20 years in railway and high-speed rail mileage, highways and expressways, as well as air routes and waterways, highlighting the development of the world's largest high-speed rail and expressway networks.

According to the State Council Information Office of China, this year's Chinese Spring Festival travel period runs from February 2 to March 13, lasting 40 days. Nationwide cross-regional passenger movement is expected to reach another record high.
