During the Spring Festival holiday, a spectacular drone show lights up the night sky over Dunhuang, a historic oasis city along the ancient Silk Road in northwest China.
Each evening, more than 1,000 drones take flight in perfect synchrony, forming glowing images inspired by Dunhuang’s rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes. The aerial display features iconic landmarks such as the Mogao Grottoes, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, as well as camels journeying across the desert.
Festive motifs including blooming flowers, Chinese characters for spring and good fortune, and a galloping horse — the zodiac sign of the year — add to the holiday atmosphere, drawing crowds and highlighting Dunhuang’s growing appeal as a cultural and tourism hub.
