As German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will pay an official visit to China from February 25 to 26, China-Germany relations are coming into the spotlight.

Over the past 50 years and more since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Germany economic and trade cooperation has continuously deepened.

In recent years, bilateral trade volume has remained above $200 billion dollars, and the stock of two-way investment has surpassed $65 billion dollars. Both figures account for approximately one quarter of China's total economic and trade cooperation with the European Union.

This year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30). Both countries enjoy a solid foundation for cooperation in traditional industries.

The two sides are expected to explore new areas of cooperation in emerging fields such as clean energy, embodied intelligence, biotechnology and industrial digitalization, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of China-Germany economic and trade relations.
