In 2021, China declared a "complete victory" in the fight against poverty and set a five-year transition period. During this period, 832 severely impoverished counties across the country have cultivated and formed leading industries, further consolidating the foundation for poverty eradication.

A global survey conducted by CGTN found that 93.5 percent of respondents acknowledge China's victory in poverty eradication as a decisive contribution to worldwide poverty reduction.

In the survey, 89.5 percent of respondents believe that China's victory in poverty eradication has not only addressed the issue of material poverty, but also driven progress in ideological mindsets, ways of life, as well as governance at the grassroots level.

As the world's largest developing country, China has achieved rapid development alongside large-scale poverty reduction and economic transformation in tandem with the eradication of extreme poverty – significantly accelerating the global poverty reduction process.

Survey respondents express strong recognition of the key principles underpinning China's poverty alleviation story – 92.9 percent agree that the people-centered development philosophy is the fundamental driving force behind China's poverty reduction.

Meanwhile, 85.8 percent of respondents hold the view that poverty reduction is, in essence, a matter of development, and that development is the most effective solution to poverty. In addition, 90.5 percent note that China's ability to effectively mobilize and pool the efforts of all stakeholders through its rigorous organizational structure and highly efficient operational mechanisms has been pivotal to its victory in the fight against poverty.

As a member of the Global South, China is a reliable long-term partner for developing countries, and it has taken solid actions to advance the global development cause. Research by the World Bank shows that by 2030, the full implementation of China's Belt and Road Initiative is expected to lift 7.6 million people in participating countries out of extreme poverty and 32 million people out of moderate poverty.

According to the survey, 89.1 percent of respondents see China as an advocate, promoter and contributor to "a poverty-free community with a shared future for mankind." Furthermore, 90.4 percent believe that China's victory in poverty eradication has bolstered global confidence in ending poverty, particularly among Global South countries. Overall, 92.8 percent of respondents acknowledge that China's poverty alleviation vision and practices offer valuable lessons for high-quality development worldwide.

The CGTN poll – published in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian – received responses from 9,744 people within 24 hours.
