While people were celebrating the Chinese New Year in the past week, over 1,000 members of Chinese medical aid teams remained at their posts abroad, continuing to serve patients in host countries.

In 2025, the Chinese government dispatched a total of 1,061 medical personnel to 57 countries for foreign aid missions, according to data from the National Health Commission, China's health authority. These teams provided medical services to 2.06 million patient visits in their host nations.

Upholding the spirit of boundless love, these medical professionals have written a new chapter in international health assistance.

Over the past year, these medical teams advanced the "minimally invasive medicine" initiative across 20 countries. Notably, the Chinese medical team in Equatorial Guinea successfully performed the nation's first laparoscopic umbilical hernia repair. Similarly, the team in Djibouti conducted the country's inaugural urological laparoscopic surgery. In Malawi, the medical team accomplished the country's first-ever surgery on a rare premature infant, filling a local technical gap.

Zhang Junqiao, leader of the 27th batch of the Chinese medical team to Tanzania, lost his life while attempting to rescue a drowning local resident and was posthumously recognized as a martyr.

Since its inception in 1963, the Chinese government has dispatched a total of 31,000 medical team members to 77 countries and regions, who have collectively served about 300 million patients.

China has also implemented 49 paired hospital cooperation projects in 43 countries (and regions), co-established 29 key clinical specialty cooperation centers, and helped fill hundreds of technical gaps in host nations.
