Perched atop Mount Marpori in central Lhasa, the capital of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, the Potala Palace traces its origins back to the 7th century, during the reign of Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Even today, traces of history from more than 1,300 years ago can still be seen in its overall layout.
