Five years ago, China declared that it had achieved a complete victory in its fight against extreme poverty. Since then, the country has entered a five-year transition period focused on consolidating those achievements and advancing a broader rural revitalization strategy.
With the transition period now over, what's next?
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Jun said China will institutionalize poverty prevention through early monitoring, targeted assistance and long-term industrial development.
Policies will remain generally stable while support will shift toward enhancing local industries, expanding employment and strengthening social security systems.
