Doctor Lisheng Cai, a staff scientist at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), said in an interview with CGTN that chronic disease risks often begin earlier than many expect. While conditions such as heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer's are commonly associated with old age, he noted that the first major health risks can emerge between the ages of 40 and 50, often linked to the heart.

Doctor Cai said midlife is a critical window for prevention. He stressed that extreme dieting or excessive exercise is not necessary. Instead, he highlighted the importance of metabolic flexibility. He also encouraged regular movement, particularly engaging major muscle groups.
