The international community should remain highly vigilant against and firmly resist Japan's new militarist moves, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on a proposal put forward by Japan's Liberal Democratic Party urging the government to lift restrictions on weapons exports.

"We have noted relevant reports and express serious concern over them," Mao said.

Due to its history of aggression, Japan's military and security moves have long been closely watched by its Asian neighbors and the international community, she said.

In recent years, Japan has made major adjustments to its security policies. Certain Japanese officials have openly clamored for embracing nuclear weapons, sought to revise the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and called for lifting the ban on weapons exports, once again exposing the ambition of Japan's right-wing forces to break free from the post-war international order and domestic legal constraints and pursue remilitarization, Mao said.

The international community should stay on high alert, work together to safeguard the outcomes of the victory of World War II and the post-war international order, and firmly resist Japan's new militarist moves, she added.
