Zhang Qiongli, a deputy to the National People's Congress and a teacher at a senior high school in the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of central China's Hubei Province, has devoted 16 years to grassroots education.
Throughout her service, she has put students' needs at the center of her work. Her proposals, rooted in real classroom concerns, have received positive responses. In 2023, she suggested replacing desk napping with proper lying-down rest for primary and middle school students. The initiative has since been rolled out in many places, benefiting about 40,000 students in Enshi alone.
At the upcoming 2026 Two Sessions, Zhang will continue to focus on education, promoting the integration of science education with values education, strengthening positive guidance, and calling for better regulation of the internet environment for young people.
"Being a deputy isn't about doing earth-shaking things. It's about treating the small concerns of the people as big priorities," Zhang says. (Photos via Xinhua News Agency)
