Sports Scene

Wang Chuqin showcased his prowess by leading a contingent of Chinese players into the quarterfinals at the WTT (World Table Tennis) Singapore Smash on Thursday.

World No. 1 Wang, who outclassed Denmark's Anders Lind 3-1, will face the Republic of Korea's Jang Woo-jin in the next round.

Chinese compatriot Lin Shidong also advanced, defeating the ROK's Lim Jong-hoon by a similar 3-1 scoreline to set up a showdown with France's Felix Lebrun. Xiang Peng faced disappointment, however, falling to Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-Ju 3-0.

On the women's side, Wang Manyu demonstrated her tenacity after battling back from a game down to overhaul the ROK's Shin Yu-bin 3-1, positioning herself for a quarterfinal clash with Japan's Miwa Harimoto.

Wang Yidi progressed with a 3-1 victory against Japan's Mima Ito, while Chen Xingtong rounded out China's strong showing by brushing aside Japan's Miyu Nagasaki 3-0.
