A smoother way home: China expands the number of ports issuing the single-entry Taiwan Compatriot Permit

As of November 20, 2025, China expanded the number of ports issuing the single-entry Taiwan Compatriot Permit for Taiwan residents traveling to the mainland from 58 to 100.

Taiwan residents can now apply upon arrival at the port of entry and pick up the permit within about 30 minutes, allowing a stay of up to three months. They can also apply for a card-type travel permit valid for five years, either through a mainland exit-entry administration at or above the county level or through travel agencies in Taiwan.

For first-time visitors from Taiwan, permits are issued free of charge, and over 1,000 scenic areas offer them free admission. In addition, the personal information of permit holders is strictly protected in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
