Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), as the super connector of the Chinese mainland and the world, can help Chinese companies looking to scale globally, says Dr. Eric Li Ka-cheung, a former member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Hong Kong from 2002 to 2022.

He also notes that the city is not just a gateway, but a launchpad for mainland companies to extend their international reach.

One of the key drivers is the Hong Kong equities market. Many Chinese mainland companies choose to go public on the Hong Kong stock market and then use Hong Kong as a platform to connect with global markets. According to HKEX, more than 1400 mainland corporations are listed with a market value of over $3 trillion.

Beyond capital, Dr. Li highlights the indispensable role of Hong Kong's professional services. As a veteran of the accounting sector, he highlights that he and his colleagues have provided critical advisory work, including shaping tax reforms on the mainland.

Looking ahead to the upcoming "Two Sessions," Dr. Li's focus is on integration. He is particularly interested in how Hong Kong can better align with national development strategies. His message to the next generation is clear: he encourages Hong Kong's youth to explore the mainland firsthand and immerse themselves in the country's growth.
