Smart channel boosts efficiency along the Air Silk Road

A new intelligent fast-track channel for international flight crews of Chinese airlines was launched at Urumqi Tianshan International Airport on March 1, boosting efficiency along the "Air Silk Road." Using document verification and biometric recognition, the system enables quick, on-demand clearance. Currently available to crew members of Chinese mainland airlines on regular international routes, it significantly reduces processing time and supports Urumqi's development as an international aviation hub. Wang Wei, captain of the Fourth Duty Team at Urumqi Immigration Inspection Station, says with rising flight volumes, Urumqi Tianshan International Airport expects to process around 100,000 flight crew members in 2026. The new fast-track channel has cut individual clearance time by nearly 50 percent.
