China's comprehensive victory in poverty eradication in 2020 historically resolved the absolute poverty issue that had plagued the country for thousands of years. The international community has spoken highly of this achievement, praising China for making the greatest contribution to global poverty reduction and setting an inspiring example, said Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on Tuesday.
Over the past five years, all counties in China's formerly impoverished regions have been connected by expressways, all villages accessible by paved roads, and internet access achieved nationwide coverage, Liu noted. The bottom line of preventing large-scale relapse into poverty has been firmly upheld, and remarkable progress has been made in comprehensive rural revitalization, he stressed.
