The US Congress is scheduled to vote this week on motions seeking to curb President Donald Trump's war powers against Iran.

US Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, who is one of the main sponsors of the joint resolution to "direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran," stressed the urgency of this vote.

"The Constitution says we're not supposed to be at war without a vote of Congress," he said in an interview with US media. "This is important. The lives of our troops are at risk. We ought to come back to Washington right away and vote on this."

Trump's Operation Epic Fury against Iran is facing heavy legal scrutiny, as critics cite Article I of the US Constitution, which stipulates that only Congress has the power to declare war.
