Qatar affirmed on Tuesday that it remains fully prepared to confront ongoing security challenges, warning that violations of its sovereignty will draw a firm response, following what officials described as a serious escalation involving missile and aerial attacks targeting multiple locations across the country.
Speaking during his weekly press conference, Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Qatar has demonstrated that it cannot be intimidated and continues to maintain complete operational readiness.
His remarks came after the Ministry of Defense announced the downing of two Iranian Sukhoi fighter jets and the interception of several ballistic missiles and drones.
Al-Ansari stated that the two Iranian fighter aircraft were warned before being shot down over the waters of the Arabian Gulf, adding that efforts are underway to determine the status of their crews.
He stressed that such attacks will not pass unanswered.
He noted that Qatar had not received any prior notification from Iran regarding the missile strikes, characterizing the incident as a dangerous escalation.
According to Al-Ansari, the attack included missiles directed toward Al Udeid Air Base, along with attempts to strike other sites, including Hamad International Airport. He emphasized that Qatari air defenses successfully intercepted incoming threats.
The Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson said Qatar has full coordination with regional and international partners, noting that communication and cooperation with US forces stationed in Qatar remains strong.
According to Al-Ansari, US President Donald Trump held a phone call with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss developments and express support.
He said that no direct communication is currently taking place between Qatar and Iran. He noted that once sovereignty is violated in such a manner, all options remain available to the Qatari leadership.
In response to a question regarding liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, Al-Ansari confirmed that LNG output has been temporarily suspended following a military attack on QatarEnergy's operational facilities in Mesaieed and Ras Laffan. He stated that the decision was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of personnel and infrastructure after the strike on key production and processing sites.
The spokesperson said that while Qatar chooses dialogue whenever possible, it will decisively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that when conditions allow for constructive engagement, Qatar will participate, though safeguarding the nation remains paramount amid escalating threats.
