China's total grain output in 2025 reached 1.43 trillion jin (715 million metric tons), said Huang Sanwen, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Huang, who is president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stressed that the key to China's sustained high grain harvest lies in agricultural science and technology.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, he noted, China accelerated major scientific and technological initiatives and projects with a focus on revitalizing the seed industry and tackling shortages in agricultural machinery and equipment.

In 2025, the contribution rate of agricultural scientific and technological progress in China exceeded 64%. Today, China's grain, vegetables and meat consumption mainly relies on domestically developed varieties.
