Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Wednesday said that since the outbreak of conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, over 470 Chinese nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran under the arrangement of the local Chinese embassy and consulates.
Mao noted that the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Chinese diplomatic missions in relevant countries have issued multiple safety alerts and carried out work through various means, calling for and assisting Chinese nationals in Iran to evacuate as soon as possible, and reminding Chinese citizens in other countries to stay vigilant for their safety.
Given the grave security situation in Iran, China once again solemnly urges Chinese citizens still in Iran to strengthen safety precautions, evacuate to safe areas as soon as possible, and register their information with Chinese diplomatic missions in Iran in a timely manner, Mao said.
She also reminded Chinese citizens not to travel to countries and regions near Iran affected by military conflicts. Those already in such areas are advised to further enhance security precautions and avoid sensitive sites such as military facilities and public gatherings, Mao stressed.
In case of emergency, please call the local police immediately and contact the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission for assistance, Mao added.
Responding to a reporter's question on disrupted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Mao said the Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are vital international corridors for cargo and energy trade.
Safeguarding security and stability in this region serves the common interests of the international community, Mao said.
China urges all parties to immediately cease military action, prevent further escalation of tensions, and avoid a greater impact of regional turbulence on the global economy, Mao stressed.
When asked about US President Donald Trump threatening to cut all trade ties with Spain over Madrid's refusal to allow the United States to use Spanish air bases for strikes against Iran, Mao said military strikes against Iran by the United States and Israel violate international law, and trade should not be weaponized or used as a tool.
