CGTN

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that no matter the justification, the indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable, and any attack on innocent civilians and non-military targets must be condemned.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when holding a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Wang also said China will send its special envoy on the Middle East issue to regional countries to conduct mediation efforts. He added that China strongly urges all parties to stop military actions, return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible, and prevent the situation from escalating further.

Wang said China appreciates Saudi Arabia's restraint and its commitment to resolving differences through peaceful means.

Noting the reconciliation achieved by regional countries is valuable and should be cherished and further promoted, Wang said China has always been a force for peace and is willing to continue playing a constructive role.

Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said Saudi Arabia does not wish for the region to fall into warfare, but it is concerning that the conflict continues to spread and shows signs of further escalation. He added that while Saudi Arabia has exercised restraint, it reserves the right to self-defense and hopes the crisis can avoid further escalation and move toward de-escalation.

Saudi Arabia appreciates China's emphasis on regional security and stability and its positive role in this regard, said the Saudi foreign minister, adding that the Kingdom is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to promote peace, stop the war, and achieve peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible.
