As US-Israeli strikes on Iran entered their fifth day, global reactions remained sharply divided, with some condemning the initial strikes, others criticizing Iran's retaliatory actions and many urging de-escalation.

Iran's official IRNA news agency said Wednesday that US-Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,000 people nationwide since Saturday.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said Wednesday they had total control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global energy transit, as Israel launched a new wave of strikes on the Iranian capital.

Top US general Dan Caine said on Wednesday that Iran's military capabilities were greatly diminished, adding that the US was expanding its strikes inside Iran.

A senior cleric and member of Iran's Assembly of Experts said on Wednesday that the country will select its next supreme leader soon, with candidates determined.
