National political advisors have been urged to pool wisdom and gather strength for a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).

Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a work report to around 2,100 national political advisors in Beijing during the opening of its annual session, marking the beginning of this year's two sessions of China's top legislative and top political advisory bodies. The fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress will open on Thursday.

Advisory work and policy contributions highlighted

Wang said in the work report that the CPPCC National Committee has received 5,992 proposals over the past year, of which 5,061 were filed, with a 99.9 percent response rate.

Various policy recommendations received 1,057 instructions from leaders and 201 feedback reports from local governments and departments.

Wang said that the CPPCC National Committee, focusing on advancing Chinese modernization through consultation and policy recommendations, has worked to better serve sound decision-making and effective policy implementation.

In this way, the CPPCC National Committee has held various activities, including two special consultative meetings, 18 expert consultation meetings, 19 proposal-handling consultation meetings and four symposiums on macroeconomic analysis, over the past year, said the top political advisor. 

International exchange deepened

The CPPCC National Committee has coordinated different activities of public, people-to-people and think-tank diplomacy to serve the objectives of the country's foreign affairs, Wang said.

The CPPCC National Committee and its affiliated organizations have carried out 210 international exchange events with 1,781 foreigners from 129 countries as well as international and regional organizations participating in those activities, Wang said.

Wang added that as many as 168 participants – including diplomatic envoys to China from European countries and young diplomats from Singapore – had been invited to visit the National Committee of the CPPCC over the past year.

More efforts urged for new start

The year 2026 marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. Wang said the CPPCC National Committee will organize political parties, organizations and people from all ethnic groups and sectors participating in the CPPCC to build consensus, pool wisdom and gather strength for a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan.

To effectively implement the CPPCC's 2026 consultation plan, the CPPCC National Committee will conduct in-depth investigations and deliberations closely aligned with the major tasks and strategic initiatives set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan, he said.

Wang added that the CPPCC National Committee should focus on key issues in areas such as economic development, scientific and technological innovation, reform and opening up, social development, and people's well-being, and truthfully reflect public opinion and social conditions.
