China will strengthen basic medical and health services, according to a government work report submitted to the country's top legislature for deliberation on Thursday.
China aims to refine the framework of policies and institutions for the promotion of health, deliver better outcomes in patriotic health campaigns and boost public health capacity under the health-first strategy, the report said.
The country will improve mechanisms to promote coordinated development and governance of medical services, medical insurance and pharmaceuticals, while providing greater operational support for county, district and community-level medical institutions, according to the report.
China will also continue to promote the preservation and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the integrated application of TCM and Western medicine, it added.
China aims to improve the multi-tiered medical security system and steadily advance unified management of basic medical insurance funds at the provincial level, the report said.
