Wang Zhiyi kicked off her campaign at the All England Open in Birmingham with a commanding straight-games victory over Japan's Hina Akechi, winning 21-15, 21-15 to advance to the round of 16.

The second seed has made a strong start to the season, having reached the finals of her last three tournaments, although she is yet to secure a title.

On the men's side, Lu Guangzu faced a tougher challenge, falling in the opening round to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Lu initially took a narrow 10-9 lead, but Vitidsarn quickly found his rhythm and turned the tides to go ahead 13-11.

The world number two then seized control of the match, winning the first game 21-15 and establishing a commanding 17-4 lead in the second before wrapping it up at 21-10.

Vitidsarn will next compete against either Japan's Yushi Tanaka or France's Toma Junior Popov.
