Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday reaffirmed the enduring strength of China-Africa ties, noting that the tradition of beginning the diplomatic year with a visit to Africa has been upheld rain or shine for 36 consecutive years – a commitment he said reflects the spirit of China's foreign policy.

"It's no exaggeration to say that the China-Africa friendship has been passed down from generation to generation, forged heart to heart, and built with sweat and blood," Wang said.

The Chinese foreign minister said China-Africa relations are set to witness a series of new developments in 2026.

The building of a China-Africa community with a shared future will take new steps, Wang said. He added that in 2026, China will receive visits from leaders of multiple African countries, strengthen mutual support as all-weather partners and write a new chapter of shared destiny.

Wang also said China will fully implement zero tariffs on 100% of tariff lines for African countries starting May 1. "China is removing tariffs completely to boost trade, multiply benefits for the people and help Africa access the enormous opportunities of the Chinese market."

Noting that the Year of China-Africa Cultural Exchanges has officially kicked off, Wang said nearly 600 events are scheduled throughout the year.

China is willing to work together with its African brothers and sisters to deepen mutual learning among civilizations, promote people-to-people bonds and ensure that China-Africa friendship is passed down from generation to generation, Wang said.
