China bags 2 golds, 2 silvers, 2 bronzes at 2026 Winter Paralympics

Team China finished the second day of competitions at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics on Saturday with two gold, two silver and two bronze medals, making their most appearances on the top of the podium at any overseas Winter Paralympics.

Cai Jiayun won the men's biathlon sprint standing title in 17:13.6. He didn't have the best start in the race, but rallied to the leading position after hitting all five targets in the first round of shooting. The 25-year-old managed to stay ahead until the end of the competition to bag the first gold for China.

Cai's compatriot Liu Xiaobin had silver in 17:35.4. The bronze went to Germany's Marco Maier.

China's second gold came from biathlon as well, this time secured by Wang Yue in the women's sprint vision impaired final. Pairing with her guide Chen Guoming, the 26-year-old finished the race first in 19:52.5, ahead of silver medalist Carina Edlingerova of the Czech Republic and German bronze medalist Leonie Walter.

Chinese athletes were impressive in other biathlon events as well. Liu Mengtao took silver in the men's sprint sitting final in 20:04.8. His teammate Liu Zixu took bronze. Taras Rad of Ukraine topped the podium in 19:55.5.

In the women's alpine skiing downhill sitting final, Liu Sitong clinched China's first medal at the 14th Winter Paralympics after coming in third in 1:31.27. Anna-Lena Forster of Germany won the gold and Spain's Audrey Pascual got silver.
