Editor's Note: March 8 marks International Women's Day. CGTN's Health Talk spoke with Linda Bosserman, a medical oncologist at the City of Hope, a renowned cancer center in California, the United States. She shared experiences and insights from her four-decade career treating patients.
"We don't do magic. We have science and we have compassion, but we don't cure everyone and to walk that journey for comfort and finishing their life is just as important," said Linda Bosserman.
Over her four-decade career treating cancer patients, Dr. Bosserman has focused not only on curing disease but also on providing emotional support.
Easing patients' suffering, helping them live better, and supporting the goals they hope to achieve are essential when customizing treatment plans and explaining options to those who arrive in shock after a new diagnosis, she said.
Many patients and their familes were inspired by her. One of her patients' daughters has become a researcher, an epidemiologist and a cancer specialist.
"I have so many joys in just helping people in my community and the people I know do as well as they can," Dr. Bosserman said.
