Peace, cooperation and friendship should be the new narrative of the South China Sea, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday, adding that making waves wins no hearts and fomenting trouble finds no takers.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference on foreign policy held on the sidelines of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing.
"Consultation on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) has reached crunch time," Wang noted, adding that China has the confidence and the resolve to provide the practical and effective golden rules as soon as possible.
"We also hope that the Philippines will resist the pull of self-interest and fulfill its responsibility," Wang said.
