"In a multi-ethnic community where people live and work together, the community connects people of all ethnic groups with opportunities in employment, education and development," said Cui Haiyang, vice president of Guizhou Minzu University, on Wednesday.

Cui, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a member of the Central Committee of China Democratic League, made the remarks in a group interview ahead of the closing meeting of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The CPPCC member, from the Korean ethnic minority group in northeast China and now working in southwest China's Guizhou Province, has been studying the country's ethnic issues for many years.

He shared a story about Yang Shuixing, a woman from the Bouyei ethnic group who was relocated from a remote mountainous area to a resettlement community in Shiguang Village, southwest China's Guizhou Province. Other ethnic groups also live in the community, including Han, Miao and Tujia people. Residents help one another during the harvest season and in their daily lives, and their children study and read in classrooms equipped with modern facilities, he noted.

Cui said that the community has woven together opportunities for employment, education and development for people of all ethnic groups. Such deep interaction not only promotes cultural identity and strengthens ethnic unity, he said, but also energizes local development.

Cui also spoke about well-known events in Guizhou that showcase multi-ethnic integration, such as "Cun Chao," or the Village Super League, and "Cun BA," also known as China's Village Basketball Competition. These events have attracted global attention and helped boost local tourism. The province received nearly 800 million tourist visits last year, he added.
