Canadian PM: Canada will 'never participate' in attacks on Iran

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Tuesday that Canada is not involved in the US-Israel attack on Iran and "will never participate in it."

He told MPs in the House of Commons that Canada's stance is clear and "it supports the necessity to prevent Iran's nuclear program and the export of terrorism."

"Canada is not participating in the United States and Israeli offensive and will never participate in it," Carney said.

Carney also talked with French President Emmanuel Macron on the phone, during which the impact of the Middle East situation brought on global economy, including the lifting energy prices, were discussed. The two leaders "underscored opening secure access through the Strait of Hormuz", according to a readout from the Prime Minister's Office.

Carney was criticized by the opposition for the different attitudes towards Iran. He expressed support for air strikes to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Days later, Carney said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East was a "failure" of the international order. He called for calm in the Middle East and said all countries engaged in hostilities, including the US and Israel, must respect international rules of engagement.
