Mearsheimer: Once war with Iran drags on, the US is destined to lose

In an exclusive interview with CGTN's Xu Qinduo, University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer warns that once war with Iran drags on, the United States is heading for a "Vietnam-style Quagmire." He points out that Iran's path to victory is simply to survive as long as it can while continuing to inflict pain on the US, Israel and their allies. If it can, then Tehran wins. He argues that the more Iranian civilians killed, the harder regime change will become, as that will push Iranians to rally around their regime rather than turn against it. "The US will inflict massive pain on Iran," Mearsheimer says, "but it will not be able to win the war in the long term."
