US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the military strikes against Iran will end "soon," before sending mixed signals about the timing, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian laid out three conditions to end the conflict.

On Wednesday, as the US-Israel-Iran conflict entered its 12th day, Pezeshkian said on social media platform X that "the only way" to end the war is "recognizing Iran's legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm international guarantees against future aggression."

Iran does not seek conflict with regional countries and would only target sites used to attack its territory, within its legitimate right to self-defense, he reportedly told Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by phone.

Trump said the US military operation in Iran is both a war and a short-term "excursion," sending mixed messages on when the strikes will end. He said earlier in the day that the military operation will end "soon" because there is "practically nothing left to target," Axios reported.

US and Israeli officials said that they are preparing for at least two more weeks of strikes in Iran, and that there has been no internal directive on when such strikes might stop, according to the report.

More than 1,300 civilians have been killed and 9,669 civilian sites destroyed in Iran since the conflict broke out on February 28, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a Pentagon spokesman said on Tuesday about 140 US troops have been wounded, including eight seriously injured, in the conflict. Seven American service members have been confirmed dead.

Iran launches 40th wave of attacks, US says over 5,500 targets hit

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced in the early hours of Thursday that it had launched the 40th wave of the Operation True Promise 4 military operation.

The IRGC said it will continue striking Israeli and US bases across the Middle East until the threat of war against Iran ends. "We only think of the enemy's complete surrender," it said.

Iran's military said on Wednesday that it is ending its previous "proportional retaliation" policy and will now carry out a "continuous strikes" strategy – launching consecutive attacks rather than one-for-one.

Abolfazl Shekarchi, a spokesman for Iran's armed forces, warned on Wednesday of massive retaliation if the United States were to strike Iran's ports. "If the United States carries out its threat against Iran's ports, no port, economic center, or point in the Persian Gulf will be out of our reach," Shekarchi said.

Meanwhile, US Central Command Command said on Wednesday that the US military has struck more than 5,500 targets in Iran, including over 60 ships, since its Operation Epic Fury began.

According to information disclosed by the US on the same day, at least 17 US military bases and other facilities have been hit in Iranian attacks, with some locations being attacked multiple times, since the war began.

In addition, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation warned police departments in California in recent days that Iran could retaliate for American attacks by launching drones at the West Coast, ABC News reported on Wednesday, citing an alert reviewed by the news outlet.

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Wednesday that its air force, in coordination with intelligence agencies, conducted a new wave of air strikes on Tehran and western Iran earlier in the day. It said in a statement that the strikes focused on facilities associated with the IRGC, including its command centers and personnel.

Iran, US war of words over Strait of Hormuz

The conflict ‌continues to rattle global markets, raising the stakes for the global ‌economy.

Iran's military said on Wednesday that it possesses the capability to seal off the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments and fertilizers.

A spokesperson said Iran will not allow even one liter of oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in favor of the US and its allies. He also pointed out that Western attempts to suppress global oil and energy prices through external intervention are doomed to failure.

Meanwhile, Trump told reporters on Wednesday that ‌the US ‌was "going to look very ‌strongly" at the Strait of Hormuz, saying that "the straits are in ‌great shape."

In comments to CBS News earlier this week about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said he was "thinking about taking it over."
