Wang Meng and Yang Jinqiao of China defeated Baek Hye-jin and Lee Yong-suk of the Republic of Korea (ROK) 9-7 to win the inaugural mixed doubles wheelchair curling gold medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, on Wednesday.
Their victory became China's 10th appearance on the top of the podium at the Games.
Wang threaded the needle between two guards to give China three points in the first end. China has dominated the sport since winning the mixed team gold at PyeongChang 2018.
The two were nearly flawless as they jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third end.
The ROK duo tried to fight back in the second half as Baek took out China's stone with the hammer to score three points.
In the eighth and final end, Wang's last draw came up light, allowing the opponents to steal one point and tie it at 7 forcing extra ends.
Baek aimed to take out China's red but missed before China added two points in the first extra end to seal the deal. Wang clinched her second Paralympic gold while Yang earned the first of his career.
"We maintained strong focus during the first half," Wang said after competition. "However, in the second half, as we approached victory, our opponents began closing the gap. This shift in momentum affected our mentality, leading to subsequent errors. This is what we need to reflect on and improve."
