A new variety show focused on China's rapidly growing pet economy is set to explore how pet culture is reshaping urban life and consumer trends. The program, titled Jiayou Wangwang, or Go Go Woof, also aims to connect online entertainment content with real-world pet-friendly initiatives at places such as Chengdu's parks and public service spaces.
Among the people behind this new show is Zhao Bin, who is from a subsidiary company of Chengdu Culture and Tourism Development Group. He said pets have increasingly become a crucial part of what many young consumers call the "healing economy.”For them, pets offer emotional comfort and companionship amid a fast-paced urban life.
Zhao Bin noted that a city's level of "pet-friendliness" is no longer just a measure of civic culture, it has become an important indicator of whether a city can attract young talent and build a vibrant lifestyle environment.
The show also plans to link two of China's major pet economy hubs – Chengdu in southwest China and Shanghai in the east – creating collaborative projects that could serve as a new national model for consumer innovation tied to pet-related industries.

Meanwhile, policymakers are also paying increasing attention to the sector's potential. During China's annual Two Sessions meetings this year, Zhao Wanping, a deputy to the National People's Congress and deputy head of the Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, highlighted the pet economy as a key growth engine within emerging consumer markets.
He said the industry has already formed a full lifecycle supply chain covering pets' needs "from birth to old age," including food, healthcare, clothing, transportation and end-of-life services. The sector is now shifting from basic feeding and care toward a more diversified ecosystem centered on emotional companionship, high-quality services and technological integration.
To further accelerate high-quality development of the industry, Zhao Wanping suggested fostering a number of well-known pet industry clusters across China, according to a China Business Journal report. "Such hubs could bring together pet food production, veterinary services and related consumer products," added Zhao Wanping.
