Why the US targeted Iran's Kharg Island

US President Donald Trump said Friday night that the #US  had “totally obliterated” all military targets on Kharg Island, and threatened to strike oil infrastructure there if Iran continues to block shipping through the Strait of Hormuz – a vital maritime chokepoint that connects the Persian Gulf to the open seas and a route for roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply.

The strike has drawn attention to the small island, which handles about 90% of Iran's crude exports.
