China advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup in Australia after defeating Chinese Taipei 2-0 in extra time, keeping their bid for a record-extending 10th continental title alive and securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
China settled quickly and controlled possession for long stretches. Wang Shuang appeared to have given her side the lead in the 39th minute with a well-taken header, but the goal was disallowed for offside in the buildup.
China remained in control in the second half but could not find a breakthrough in regulation time, as Shao Ziqin saw her effort well saved.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 94th minute when Shao fired a well-placed shot after receiving a pass from Wang.
Shao later won a penalty in the 112th minute, but Wurigumula had her spot kick saved.
With two minutes remaining in stoppage time, Jin Kun surged down the right flank, and her cross bounced in off Chen Ying-hui for an own goal.
China secured a 2-0 victory and advanced to face host Australia in Tuesday's semifinal, while also confirming their place at next year's World Cup.
