China successfully launched a new remote-sensing satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province on Sunday evening.

A Long March-6A carrier rocket, carrying the satellite Yaogan-50 02, blasted off at 9:22 p.m., and has sent the satellite into preset orbit.

The satellite will mainly be used for land surveys, crop yield estimation and disaster prevention and mitigation.

The launch marks the 633rd flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
