China's special envoy on the Middle East issue, Zhai Jun, met with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Kuwait City on Sunday.
Sheikh Jarrah stated that Kuwait is not a party to the war and remains committed to resolving disputes through peaceful means. He noted that Iran should immediately cease its attacks on Kuwait and other Gulf neighbors, ensure the safety and smooth flow of international waterways, and avoid causing further shocks to global energy supplies.
The Kuwait side highly appreciates China's just position and its efforts to promote peace, according to Sheikh Jarrah. He also said that Kuwait welcomes China's special envoy to mediate in the region and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
Zhai Jun stated that the current regional situation remains turbulent, and Gulf countries including Kuwait have been deeply affected, which China does not wish to see.
He stressed that the United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran without authorization from the United Nations Security Council, which is a blatant violation of international law, and China firmly opposes such actions.
At the same time, China condemns any indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets, and the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf countries must be fully respected. Non-military targets such as energy and economic facilities should not be attacked, and the safety of waterways should not be disrupted, according to Zhai.
He also stated that the pressing priority now is to stop fighting and end the war. The international community should urge the parties concerned to stop military operations at once and prevent further escalation of tensions.
China appreciates Kuwait's restrained approach and calm response, and is willing to work with Kuwait to play a constructive role in de-escalating the situation in the region.
