In the Ili River Valley of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, hardy top ice flowers are blooming through the snow, heralding the arrival of spring. These white-purple blossoms with golden stamens sway in the cold wind against distant snow peaks. These early spring ephemerals burst into bloom as snow melts, each lasting only four to six days. Adapted to the harsh high-altitude environment, they open only on sunny days. Their blooming signals the start of the region's most beautiful wildflower season.
