The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the United States has clarified that a visit to China by US President Donald Trump is unrelated to the issue of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating that both sides are in communication on the visit.
Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks while answering questions on high-level exchanges between the two countries at a daily press briefing.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that media reports suggesting any delay in Trump's China visit would be due to the US president's demand that China help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically vital chokepoints, were "completely false."
Lin said the Chinese side has noted the public clarification from the US side, which stressed the visit has nothing to do with shipping issues in the Strait of Hormuz.
