More than 100 heritage sites in Iran have been damaged following recent airstrikes, according to the Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts. As of March 17, the number of affected sites has risen to 108, with the capital Tehran suffering the most extensive losses – 60 historical landmarks reported damaged. The central province of Isfahan has also seen significant impact, with 19 sites affected. Such destruction is widely seen as a violation of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, an international agreement designed to safeguard cultural heritage during times of war.
