Trump hits out at Starmer as UK noncommittal over naval deployment for war on Iran

US President Donald Trump on Monday criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for what he described as a cautious approach to supporting US military efforts, urging more decisive action from the UK.

"You're the prime minister. You can make your own… Why do you have to meet with your team?" Trump asked about the US request for the UK to deploy naval support, recounting a conversation with Starmer.

He also stressed NATO's reliance on Washington, saying, "We've been protecting these countries for years… Putin fears us. He doesn't fear Europe whatsoever."

Trump called on allies to help secure a key shipping strait after Iran used drones, missiles and mines to disrupt tanker traffic carrying a significant share of global oil and gas. While countries including Germany, Spain and Italy ruled out joining any mission for now, Britain and Denmark said they were considering options while stressing the need to avoid escalation.
